Remove the Scene Explorer in 3ds Max 2008

A recurring consultation among colleagues and students encouraged me to write this little tutorial or tip for 3ds Max 2008.

One of the novelties of this version is the Scene Explorer, which brings the previous dialog box Select by Name (H) the possibility to rename, delete, hide and freeze objects hierarchies also modify and edit some properties en masse.

The problem is that it takes too long to open and update in scenes with lots of objects or machines are not very fast. Some users prefer to have it open in a floating window but if you do not have much desk space may become a nuisance.

Not all is lost, we can return to the old Name Select by following these steps:

    1. We look for the file "CurrentDefaults.ini" in general can be found in "c: \ Documents and Settings \ (user name) \ Local Settings \ Application Data \ Autodesk \ 3dsmax \ 2008 - 32bit \ enu \ Max", if use the initial settings as adjusted for the latest mental ray folder path will be cleared "Max.mentalray."
    2. Open the file in any text editor and look for the "[Scene Explorer]" near the end of the file, in this section you will find the parameter "SelectByNameUsesSceneExplorer = 1"
    3. We modified the 1 by a 0, save changes and restart the program.

Now press the H key to see again our old friend and if we need the Scene Explorer can even call it from the Tools menu.

    A hug
    Daniel
